PROS + CONS OF NATURAL FIBER RUGS

I speak with many clients each week about rug selection. Throughout the years I have found that most folks have strong opinions about natural fiber rugs, they either love them or hate them! I tend to absolutely LOVE natural fiber rugs, particularly the example in the image above from mcgeeandco.com . What do I love about natural fiber rugs? It starts with the fact that I have alway been drawn to natural materials. I love beautiful woodtones, and natural fiber rugs almost feels like bringing a wood element into a textile. Natural fiber rugs are a classic choice, they have so much wonderful texture and mix beautifully with many different design styles. I often find myself mentioning to clients that natural fiber rugs look just as nice with antiques and they do with modern furniture. If you enjoy a coastal aesthetic, a natural fiber rug is a quick and easy way to achieve that look. There are many reasons to love natural fiber rugs, however, there are some reasons to avoid them. If you have pets, it is very difficult to remove pet stains from natural fiber rugs, you can’t just dry clean them. I often hear that clients don’t like the scratchy feeling of a natural fiber rug under foot. I get it! If you love the look but want a smoother touch, consider layering a rug with a softer texture over the natural fiber rug. The layered rugs look amazing and with give you the softness of a traditional rug and the design element of the natural fiber rug. The other option is to go with a braided jute rug, this option inherently feels softer than a sisal rug. These days it is much easier to find natural fiber rugs at affordable prices and all different sizes. Check out rugs.com and rugsusa.com for a budget friendly pricing. Need a custom size?
